Annie Proulx's Brokeback Mountain is a solid, well written short story of 2 gay cowboys meeting for the first time herding sheep together one summer. Proulx writes simply, making Brokeback Mountain an easy read, while at the same time offers, very effectively, a strong plot that kept me interested. Proulx doesn't make this a gay sex story; there are few references to sex, but it's more about what these 2 men realize what they want out of the relationship over the course of 20+ years, Dealing with what each feels is socially acceptable, what each acknowledge what he feels is right for himself.
Brokeback Mountain is a great quick read. I wish I picked it up sooner than I had.
